Zipangu Contemporary Japanese Artists of the Heisei Era

Featuring works by artists such as Saga-born Manabu Ikeda, Takashi Murakami, Makoto Aida, and Yayoi Kusama, this exhibition showcases Japanese contemporary art that flourished throughout the Heisei era and continues into the Reiwa era and beyond into the future.

Yutoku Museum

Originally built in 1941 as a brick sugar warehouse, it was renovated and opened as the Muraoka Yokan Museum in March 1984 next to the Ogimura Main Store.

Hōman Shrine
Dedication Noh Play

 

This Noh play tradition started in 1716 when the local lord of Yanagawa, Tachibana Akinori, offered a Noh performance as part of a prayer for successful harvest. The performance is held at Hōman Shrine in the case of rain, it moves to nearby Mai Pia.

Manda Pit Station

Two electric locomotives (No. 12 and No. 18) that ran in Omuta City until the end are on display, along with a motorcar. The No. 12 locomotive operates six times a day on the 2nd and 4th Sundays of each month. Visitors can also tour the preserved brick buildings, the pithead where miners traveled between the surface and the depths, and the machinery room with its massive remaining equipment.

Traditional Cultural Festival in Nagasu

Advance reservation required.
Application Period: September 24 – October 11
Workshops on traditional crafts like Oda pottery, Kumamoto Uchiwa fans, Kiba monkeys, and Yamaga lantern making will be offered.

Various events will be held, including a live goldfish sale, a traditional industry in Nagasu Town. A Goldfish Exhibition will be held on October 20.

Holy Maria Statue at Hara Castle

This imposing wooden statue of Maria, one of the largest in the world at nearly 10 meters in height, was created by sculptor Eiji Oyashiro over 40 years. It serves as a memorial to those who perished in the Shimabara-Amakusa Rebellion.
