Kenji Yanagi

Born in 1961 in Fukuoka Prefecture. Yanagi completed his graduate studies at Tokyo University of the Arts in 1988 and later earned a Master’s in Sculpture from Chelsea College of Arts in 1995. After that, he spent a year in London as a research fellow for the Agency for Cultural Affairs.

Key projects include the opening and management of KCA house (Saitama) from 2004 to 2016, and kenakian (Saga) from 2021 to the present. He is currently a professor in the Faculty of Art and Regional Design at Saga University.

Since the 1980s, Yanagi has been presenting sculptures and installations that reflect memory and confront the dualities of body and mind. His work spans both three-dimensional and two-dimensional forms, yet remains consistently conceptual, aiming for the quiet pinnacle of beauty. In this exhibition, Yanagi presents a golden tower, which is a reference to Brâncuși’s *Endless Column*, alongside a large jar installation in the courtyard. He is also actively running the art space kenakian in Saga, fostering artistic and cultural communication.
