Ryosuke HARA

Born in 1975 in Kanagawa Prefecture, Ryosuke Hara is a painter. He graduated from the Department of Painting at Tama Art University in 2000 and completed his master’s degree at the same institution in 2002. He won the Grand Prize at the “Tokyo Wonder Wall Public Exhibition 2001.”
From 2013 to 2017, Hara served as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Painting at Tama Art University. In 2018, he began an art lecture and workshop series alongside artists Satoru Aoyama and Yoichi Takebayashi. Some of his notable solo exhibitions include “Project N 36 Ryosuke Hara” at the Tokyo Opera City Art Gallery (2009), “Ryosuke Hara Exhibition” at Yuka Sasahara Gallery in Tokyo (2011), and “Ryosuke Hara: Path to Painting” at Chigasaki City Museum of Art in Kanagawa (2012). Another notable exhibition was *on a color / hues on* at Ryoin-an, Engakuji Temple in Kanagawa (2017). His work is also permanently installed at Tsuma Shrine in Shiroishi Town as part of the “Shiroishi Green Art Festival.”

Ryosuke Hara’s unique approach involves emphasizing the physicality of colors and brushstrokes by avoiding layering. This method also applies to his ceramic works. The ceramic sculpture featured in this exhibition was created for the “1st Shiroishi Green Art Festival” and is typically installed at Tsuma Shrine in Shiroishi Town, on loan for this event.
The work symbolizes the cosmic principles represented in the Zen paintings of Sengai Osho, where the moon is a circle, the mountain a triangle, and the sea a square. His painting, *Hues / Stairs,* embodies a staircase of colors, clear and serene. Hara’s pure style and generous freedom offer a ray of light in these unstable times.
